September 4, 2026 · Cristyan BJJ Academy, Hyannis MA
Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art with deep cultural roots, combining fluid movement, kicks, acrobatics, and live music.
History
Capoeira developed in Brazil among enslaved Africans and their descendants, who disguised fighting techniques as dance. Today it is recognized as an important part of Brazilian cultural heritage.
The roda
Capoeira is practiced in a circle called a roda, where two players move and interact to the rhythm of instruments like the berimbau.
Benefits
Capoeira builds flexibility, coordination, strength, and rhythm, and it is a joyful way to stay active.
A great complement to BJJ
The movement skills from capoeira improve balance and body control on the jiu-jitsu mats.
